Christian Art Projects

Meet the artists, view their work, learn about their practice.

This biennial celebration of the visual art being made in the area has become an important part of the cultural landscape for artists and art lovers alike. When it started, in 2001, just 46 artists took part; in 2013, the last time the event was staged, over 11,000 people visited the studios, workrooms and exhibition spaces of over 200 artists working in Cheltenham and its surrounds. And this year’s event should be even better with 78 venues around the town and the surrounding area to visit.

Heritage Open Days celebrates England’s fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to places that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission. Every year on four days in September, buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors.   It is a once-a-year chance to discover architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, local arts, events and activities that bring local history and culture to life

Originally, a small medieval market town – the discovery of spa waters during the eighteenth century, followed by a visit from George III transformed Cheltenham into a popular garden town during the first half of the nineteenth century. Wealthy Britons returning from colonies such as India endowed Cheltenham with excellent educational and medical facilities and the finest collection of Victorian Churches. The villas, terraces, parks and gardens built by the Regency developers have created the unique sense of place that is Cheltenham – a wonderful town to live, work and visit, with a rich cultural and sporting life surrounded by some of England’s most glorious countryside.

The organisers of Cheltenham Heritage Open Days 2015 need to raise funds to produce a guide brochure and publicity to specifically promote Cheltenham’s history from medieval origins through to its award winning buildings of today and publicise the 50 open buildings, walks, art shows and talks on architectural features which make up the events.

Christian Arts Festival Cheltenham 2017/18
