Marianne

£300

Marianne is a French representation of a working class woman fighting for liberty and human rights.  It is the reason for the colours being only blue, white and red.  Here, Marianne is no longer fighting : she sits. She is very feminine and posing… She reflects on what French politicians have done with the values she was fighting for… I voluntarily cut her brain off.

You can see her front arm is cut in 3 places.  It should be disturbing, but most of the time, people don’t notice it (which is technically a « prouesse »). In Delacroix painting «  Liberty leading the People » , this arm is carrying a gun… Now, Her arm is broken. Guess why ?
