Marianne is a French representation of a working class woman fighting for liberty and human rights. It is the reason for the colours being only blue, white and red. Here, Marianne is no longer fighting : she sits. She is very feminine and posing… She reflects on what French politicians have done with the values she was fighting for… I voluntarily cut her brain off.
You can see her front arm is cut in 3 places. It should be disturbing, but most of the time, people don’t notice it (which is technically a « prouesse »). In Delacroix painting « Liberty leading the People » , this arm is carrying a gun… Now, Her arm is broken. Guess why ?
