Nic Pehkonen

About Nic
Nic’s work is heavily influenced by architecture. Using raw, unstretched canvas cut to shape he creates powerful forms with roughly executed surfaces and considers each piece as a solid object in its own right, occupying a space between painting and sculpture. Much of his work is rooted in concrete architecture with specific reference to industrial buildings, military installations and abandoned sites. In particular, the decaying structures occupying the ex-MOD test site at Orford Ness on the Suffolk coast are the catalyst for much of his recent and ongoing work.
